The Coalition Resale Shops Celebrate 25th Anniversary

The community is invited to join The Coalition Resale Shops as they celebrate 25th years of serving the community. A free community event will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015, from 2:00-4:00 pm at The Coalition Resale Shops and the Douglass Community Center in Southern Pines. The event will feature live music, giveaways, a sundae bar and special savings coupons to be used at The Resale Shops.

The Coalition Resale Shops opened their doors in the Spring of 1990 to support the Coalition’s mission of providing emergency assistance to struggling families. Surplus clothing items were sold and revenues were used to purchase items in shortage. The shops were open one day a week and sales averaged $200 for the day. Today the Shops generate almost 40% of the Coalition’s total operating budget. Donations are received from the community six days a week and residents flock from across the county to take advantage of the great deals offered.

Originally built in the 1930’s as Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and rectory, Sullivan’s Sundries and Cris & Florrie’s Boutique still feature original architectural details reminiscent of that period. With the shops increasing popularity, Miss Hallie’s Boutique was added in 2001 and The Bargain Barn in 2007. Today the Resale campus features four distinct shops offering all types of items. The Coalition Resale Shops are an integral part of fulfilling the Coalition’s mission. The Shop’s success is possible thanks to its loyal donors, customers, and volunteers.
