History of the Coalition
OUR HISTORY
In the early 1980s, local churches noticed families in Moore County were struggling and needed a better way to provide help.
- 1985: Eleven churches joined to form the Coalition. First meeting: Sept 15. Articles of Incorporation filed: Oct 4. First officers elected: Dec 5.
- 1986: With support from the Town of Southern Pines, the Coalition opened on West Pennsylvania Avenue (May 1).
- 2007: A new Client Services building was constructed on land donated by Voit Gilmore. The Voit Gilmore Client Services Center was dedicated on June 22.
- Today: The Coalition continues its mission through two campuses:
- Coalition Resale Shops & Donation Center – four unique stores and a sorting room on West Pennsylvania Avenue.
- Gilmore Client Services Center – providing vital services to families on West Indiana Avenue.
From humble beginnings to two thriving campuses, the Coalition has grown while staying true to its mission: helping families in need, right here in Moore County.
