Event Volunteering

In addition to more frequent volunteer opportunities, the Coalition also hosts several special events annually which require additional volunteers. These are a great chance to learn more about the Coalition while supporting Moore County families in need.

Empty Bowls
Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement started in 1990 to help raise hunger awareness. Events feature a simple meal of soup as well as commemorative bowls to help attendees remember the empty bowls of those who go hungry each day. The Coalition’s Empty Bowls event is held in February or March each year. Volunteers paint pottery bowls to be used during the event as well as assisting before, during, and after the event.

Pack the Pickup
Pack the Pickup is a community wide food drive held in April or May annually. Volunteers work at area grocery stores collecting non-perishable food donations. The donations are then brought to the Client Services campus, sorted, and the food pantry is stocked.

Shoes for Students
Shoes for Students provides new athletic shoes and socks to Moore County elementary school children identified by the school social worker. Students and a parent or guardian visit Shoe Carnival in Aberdeen to be fitted for their shoes. Volunteers register students, monitor students before, during, and after the event, and assist with shoe fittings.
